How to group series in legend?

I would like to group several series in the legend. On the internet I found linkTo as requested here: https://highcharts.uservoice.com/forums ... ies-groups

Tried to create two dummy series, that reflect my groups (without assigning any data to them) and then link the real series to these dummy series... Did not work for me.

Am I on the right way? Does anybody have a working example?
