DOC type help with Highslide

Hi, im trying to use the highslide script to work like this example here http://www.roadrash.no/hs-support/galle ... ustom.html by including it into the desgin of one of my pages.

Im having a major problem when viewing my site in IE however in that when the gallery pops up the thumbs are full size . It works fine on all other browsers.

I have noticed that if i include this line at the top of my page as in the example

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "xhtml11.dtd">
Then the gallery works fine in IE but messes up everythign else on my page. At the moment my page has no DOCTYPE defined.

IS there a way i can get round this so that including this line
A) does not mess up the rest of my site or
B) can i use the highslide gallery in IE without including this line?

As you can probably tell i have no idea what this line of code is actually doing :(

Cheers
Fraser
