Caching problem?

I have noticed that if I update a large pic (the expanded version) in some way and upload it - then when the thumb relevant to that expands, the old pic still comes up, no new one.

I prefer not to have to empty all cached images but wonder if there is any easy way to achieve a refresh specific to this, because an F5 page refresh still can bring up the earlier (now unwanted) image, despite any other normal changes being reflected.
