thumbnail position

The thumbnail for the slideshow is in the middle and I can't get it to go any place else. When the show plays it covers up the thumbnails. I would like it to be on the lefthand side, but when I select to place it there it doesn't do it. Sure I'm doing something wrong, can anyone advice on what that might be. thanks.
