flags overlapped by data series

Postby cailie » Thu Feb 16, 2012 12:23 pm

Hi HC team,

Do you consider it a bug if plotted data overlap the flags? I have attached a screen shot snippet to illustrate this. This is both a problem visually, and also functionally, because the flag's mouse events become blocked.

It would be nice if the flags bubbled up to the top layer so that they are never obscured by plotted data.

One workaround would be to add all the flag series last. In our application, this is not ideal because we allow the user to add/hide many series dynamically. We wanted to avoid removing all the series and reordering them every time a new series is added.

From my perspective, this issue would be easier to deal with if the flags were managed apart from the series, instead of being mixed together in the same array.

Does that make sense? Your advice is always appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
-C

Hi,

You can achieve the same by zIndex: http://jsfiddle.net/highcharts/qDu3F/2/

Thank you for your help.

Okay, I will choose a very large z-index so that all the flags are layered on top of the line series.

Cheers,

Hi again Torstein,

Sorry, I spoke too soon. In the provided example, the mouseover events are stolen by the line series behind. Specifically, the yellow hover effect does not occur consistently when mousing over the flag area.

I feel that flags should receive some special priority in terms of layering and event handling.

Hmm...

By mistake the zIndex wasn't applied to the mouse trackers. I've fixed that in the GitHub repo, it will be part of the next maintenance release: http://jsfiddle.net/highcharts/qDu3F/6/
