'hs' undefined with IE6

Postby poisen » Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:31 pm

Hello everybody,

just tried pulling up my website with Internet Explorer 6 and I am getting a JavaScript error 'hs' is undefined on the page. Firefox and IE7 are working without any errors and I just don't know what to do.

This is the code that is being included in the website.

Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript" src="../scripts/highslide/highslide-with-html.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
    hs.graphicsDir = '../scripts/highslide/graphics/';
    hs.outlineType = 'rounded-white';
    hs.outlineWhileAnimating = true;
    hs.minWidth = 300;
</script>

Do I have to do something different for Internet Explorer 6 do get it to work? I'd be thankful for some help.

Hi Eddie,
No, I can't see any reason why IE6 would throw a "hs not defined" error and the others not. Do you have a live test page where we can see your environment?

Here is the URL to the file that throws the error ...

http://www.twinmotion.de/hstest/test.php

IE7 and Firefox 3 are working fine without any error, just IE6 brings up the hs is undefined ...

Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I've got the same problem. Highslide works without errors with Firefox 3.0.7 and Opera 9.52, but not with IE6. There is the error "hs is not defined" in line 29, which begins with hs.graphicsDir... My header content is:
Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript" src="../wp-content/skripte/highslide/highslide.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="../wp-content/skripte/highslide/highslide.css" />
<script type="text/javascript">
hs.graphicsDir = '../wp-content/skripte/highslide/graphics/';
</script>

I'm using the newest version of HS, and it doesen't change anything, if i remove the ../ in front of the paths... I don't have any idea, maybe someone of you can help me. It's the site http://www.feuerwehrvimbuch.de As said, it works with Opera and Firefox and I don't know if it works with IE7.

Thank you!

Did you try removing the ../ in front of the paths?
Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript" src="wp-content/skripte/highslide/highslide.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="wp-content/skripte/highslide/highslide.css" />
<script type="text/javascript">
hs.graphicsDir = 'wp-content/skripte/highslide/graphics/';
</script>

Hi Sebbl,

I can confirm that your page works in IE7. The 'hs is undefined' error indicates that IE6 did not load the highslide.js script properly. You might try specifying a full path for the src parameter of the script statement for the highslide.js just to see if that satisfies IE6.

Hope that helps.

Hi, thank you for your answers,
I tried removing the ../ in front of the path and i tried a full path like the following, but nothing works... :(

Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.feuerwehrvimbuch.de/wp-content/skripte/highslide/highslide.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.feuerwehrvimbuch.de/wp-content/skripte/highslide/highslide.css" />
<script type="text/javascript">
hs.graphicsDir = 'http://www.feuerwehrvimbuch.de/wp-content/skripte/highslide/graphics/';
</script>

I think the problem is inside your highslide.js file. You have placed a comma in this line in the lang-part:
Code: Select all
restoreTitle : 'Zum Schliessen auf das Bild Klicken. Klicken und Halten um das Bild zu ziehen.',//'Click to close image, click and drag to move. Use arrow keys for next and previous.'

Remove the comma after Bild zu ziehen.'

Thank you very much, it was because of the comma :)
