vimeo on iphone

Postby tonkatsu » Thu Feb 09, 2012 9:56 am

Is there a way to get the inline vimeo player to work on the iphone? The youtube videos work, but no luck with Vimeo. The popup works fine on a PC.

Maybe I wasn't clear.

The Vimeo Iframe popup window in the following example page will not play on an iphone. But iphone plays vimeo videos if embedded directly in a site. As this slows down site performance I want to go the iframe route, but does anybody know how?

Here's an approach for skipping the popup on iOS: http://jsfiddle.net/highcharts/LAXAW/

However, I still get the error message in iPhone - does Vimeo work on the iPhone at all? If it does, perhaps we need to alter the URL as well?

Thank you for answering! Yes, Vimeo works on my iphone4 for the videos I have on my site.

I tried adding the code you provided to my config file, and it seems to stop highslide working. Is there a conflict with the youtube function?

Code: Select all
   hs.graphicsDir = 'pathto/highslide/graphics/';
   hs.showCredits = false;
   hs.align = 'center';
   hs.transitions = ['expand', 'crossfade'];
   hs.outlineType = 'glossy-dark';
   hs.fadeInOut = true;
   // Add the controlbar
   hs.outlineWhileAnimating = true;
   hs.allowSizeReduction = false;
   // always use this with flash, else the movie will be stopped on close:
   hs.preserveContent = false;
   hs.wrapperClassName = 'draggable-header dark';
   hs.addSlideshow({
      slideshowGroup: ['indexgallery', 1, 2, 3],
      interval: 3000,
      repeat: false,
      useControls: true,
      fixedControls: 'fit',
      overlayOptions: {
         opacity: .75,
         position: 'bottom center',
         hideOnMouseOut: true
      },
      thumbstrip: {
         position: 'above',
         mode: 'horizontal',
         relativeTo: 'expander'
      }
   });

function openYouTube(opener) {
   var returnValue;

   if (/(iPhone|iPad|iPod)/.test(navigator.userAgent)) returnValue = true;

   else returnValue = hs.htmlExpand(opener, {
      objectType: 'swf',
      objectWidth: 480,
      objectHeight: 385,
      width: 480,
      outlineType:'rounded-white',
      swfOptions: {
         params: {
            allowfullscreen: 'true'
         }
      },
      maincontentText: 'FLASHÒâùÒâ¼Òâ╝ÒâñÒâ╝ÒéƵø┤µû░ÒüÖÒéïÕ┐àÞªüÒüîÒüöÒüûÒüäÒü¥ÒüÖ'
   });

   return returnValue;
};

function openVimeo(el) {
    if (!/(iPhone|iPad|iPod)/.test(navigator.userAgent)) {
        return hs.htmlExpand(el, {
            objectType: 'iframe',
            width: 600,
            height: 472,
            allowSizeReduction: false,
            wrapperClassName: 'draggable-header no-footer',
            preserveContent: false,
            objectLoadTime: 'after'
        });
    }
}ÔÇï

Probably we should return true as well: http://jsfiddle.net/highcharts/LAXAW/1/

But it still doesn't work on my iPhone... Can you show me a URL that actually works in iOS? Perhaps we need to alter the URL as well?

Thank you very much for taking another look at it. I know you must be very busy with support. Unfortunately, even with the return true it still seems to break my code.

However, the original Iframe popup window method in the Roadrash example does seem to work. Just not for the video she is using in the example. It does work for every other vimeo video I have tried. I am in the kiteboarding business, so try putting this kite video in an iframe popup and check on an iphone. It should open in the native iphone player fine.

If you could get the vimeo function to work, it would clean up the html code nicely, but otherwise the original Iframe popup window seems to be okay. You just need to use a different video for the example page!

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply; IÔÇÖve been out of office.
My Vimeo demo page now works well on iPhone/iPad. I've switch to another video file.
